Weekend Service Trips

Childhood Disability and Illness. Nov 3-5. Scottsville, KY
UK ASB sends teams of UK students in the Fall and Spring on weekend trips to the Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, Kentucky. This team volunteers as camp counselors for kids with life impacting illnesses and their families.

Environmental Stewardship. Oct 27-29. Mullins, WV
UK ASB will be adding a new trip this year that goes out to the Appalachian Region! We will be working with the Rural Appalachian Improvement League (RAIL) on environmental concerns. More information coming soon!

Winter Break Service Immersions

Global Youth Empowerment. Dec 31-Jan 7. Jinotega, Nicaragua
UK ASB sends a team of students to Jinotega, Nicaragua to address the issue of Global Youth Empowerment through the non-profit organization, Outreach360. There, we provide educational experiences, which help combat the negative effects of poverty.

Housing & Food Insecurity, Urban Agriculture. Dec 30-Jan 6. New Orleans, LA
UK ASB sends a team of students to New Orleans, Louisiana to address the issue of Housing and Food Insecurity and Urban Agriculture through the non-profit organizations St. Bernard’s Project and Grow Dat.

Spring Break Service Immersions

Domestic Violence. Mar 10-17. Mystery Location
This year, UK ASB is taking an exciting approach to service: We are providing participants with knowledge about the social issue, however, the location of service will be kept secret until the third pre-connect meeting. The theme is Domestic Violence and while participants will not be working directly with victims of domestic violence, due to training and privacy, they will serve a community partner that provides direct service for victims.

Refugee Resettlement. Mar 10-17. Atlanta, GA

Hunger & Homelessness. Mar 10-18. Washington, DC
UK ASB sends a team to Washington, DC to work with communities suffering from hunger & homelessness. More information will be coming soon. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have regarding Hunger and Homelessness in Washington, D.C.

Wildlife Habitat Conservation. Mar 10-18. Silver Springs, FL
UK ASB volunteers who travel to Silver Springs, Florida will work with the non-profit organization Forest Animal Rescue, which is a lifetime care sanctuary for non-releasable wild animals rescued from lives of abuse or neglect such as big cats, bears, wolves, primates, bats, and more. Participants will work on various projects around the site, ranging from constructing new habitats to rehabilitating old ones.

Global Youth Empowerment. Mar 10-18. Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic
UK ASB volunteers traveling Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic will work with the non-profit organization Outreach360 and their Teach Corps-English Education program, helping to teach children basic English language skills. Staff provide opportunities for volunteers to learn more about the history and culture of the Dominican Republic, including issues affecting youth and education.

Sustainable Agriculture. Mar 10-18. San Cristóbol, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
UK ASB is proud to announce a new trip this year to San Cristibol, Ecuador, an island of the Galapagos. Participants will work through UBelong, an organization which exists“to advance international development efforts and promote cross-cultural understanding.” Volunteers will remove foreign species while supporting local agriculture to reduce the current need for fruit and vegetable imports.

Summer Break Service Immersion

Global Youth Education. May 11-27. Accra, Ghana
UK ASB also offers a Summer Break service immersion – a two-week program in Accra, Ghana working to address the issue of Global Youth Education through the non-profit organization, Ubelong. Accra is affected by many problems, which contribute to poor quality and access to education such as overcrowded classes, material shortages, and deficient infrastructure.
